Okay… That’s it… I think I’m going to set this as my alarm on my phone so I can feel like I’m waking up in heaven on a daily basis.

There’s just something about children’s choirs.

There’s just something about this song

Okay, let me tell you a thing about this song. My mother is a nurse in the NICU with small premature babies. and she had one baby that was born addicted to 5 different drugs. Needless to say, the poor baby had to suffer through intense withdrawals, and my mom discovered that this song was incredibly soothing for the baby while he went through all of his pain. She would play this during his rougher patches, and it would calm him down. So yes, there is something about this song.

Fun facts!

This song is a mele (soft, metered song with music) in contrast to an oli (a chant), and translated, it’s a song actually for Chief Kalakaua and Cheifess Lili’ulani. It tells of the beautiful scenery of all the islands, and specifically, a beautiful blooming flower that withstands the summits of each significant peak of Hawaii (including Mauna Kea!).
If you contrast the words mele and oli, you will hear them (say them outloud!) how soft, and harsh they are respectively. This mele is comprised of mostly soft, flowing words (save for the name of the mountains!) and the combination of those beautiful words used to name beautiful things and the Children’s Chorus is probably what it is.

Peace(fulness) transcends language.

Girl meets world addresses Cultural appropriation

this is actually embarassingly wrong, though. sure, she looks tacky but this is a purely white liberal construct we’re looking at here. generally speaking, people in contemporary japan aren’t going to see something like that as misappropriation, and it hardly makes sense to even try to look at it that way because harajuku is, you know, a shopping district that sells mass produced clothing. maybe this girl is doing something else noxious in the episode, but what’s presented here just isn’t that.

there is of course a line in the sand, and in this case in specific it’s basically between nicki minaj and gwen stefani. nicki was, and maybe still does, calling herself harajuku barbie because she’s drawn a lot of inspiration for her looks from the bright, colourful styles of the district. a district in a wealthy industrialized nation. there’s no real difference between that and calling herself rodeo drive barbie or camden square barbie. gwen stefani, you know, was paying asian women to follow her around like ornaments. that’s a problem.

i get kind of suspicious when people, especially in mainstream tv, overwhelmingly go after “weaboos” as soft targets because it seems like a smokescreen to avoid going after the actually deeply troublesome and normalized acts of commodifying and trivializing marginalized groups.

also, a teacher dragging a teenage girl that hard in front of her entire class is fucked up.

Not to mention Japan literally has Kawaii ambassadors to help spread Japanese pop culture and Fashion across the globe to help strengthen there economy , by bringing in more tourists. they really don’t give two fucks if a non japanese person is wearing an alternative fashion that is literally apart of niche group even in Japan..I am disappointed in you Girl meets world/ disney~

my rage at this is so strong.

MAY ALL PEOPLE LOVE AND APPRECIATE ALL THINGS!
